Here, you’ll find our most frequently asked questions about our services, recommendations, and what to expect when working with us. How do I know if it is time to replace my deck?
Are there peeling boards? Splits in the joists? Nails coming up? Any combination of these symptoms indicates a failing unit. Time for a consultation!
Will you replace just deck boards?
We strongly advise against this procedure. In most instances, the deck boards coming up is an indication the joists are rotted. We never advocate to offset the age of your build materials. To put new deck boards on an old framing structure is a disservice to our clients.
Considering a composite decking?
Here are a few things to consider:

Composite decking manufacturers use a tiered system for pricing.
For example, base collection = $,

Composite decking is “capped” in the color and texture with a grey inner section. As a matter of aesthetic we prefer to “picture frame” a deck to hide the cross section from view. Doing so requires a little more initial framing but provides a much cleaner finished look.

PVC composite decking: when compared often has the higher fire safety rating. However, PVC has a tendency to expand and contract greatly in our intense high altitude sun and is not recommended. It also softens in the heat and can sag between joists.
What are your concrete capabilities?
We often pour stair landings, pier footers and sidewalk sections. For flat work larger than shed pads we would refer you to our concrete contractors.
What other types of projects does O.C.S. take on?
We also install:
Flooring: engineered hardwood, laminate & vinyl.
Interior trim/finish trim: window, door and base trim.
Interior Tongue & Groove siding: as a wall and or ceiling finish.
Exterior trim and siding: board & batten or traditional lap siding.
Exterior Stairs and handrail replacement: for our STR clients if your stairs, rails or grip rails need to be brought to code, please reach out.
Most plumbing projects: hosebibs, whole house filters, pressure tanks, water heaters (inc. select on-demand units), disposals, faucets, toilets and certain plumbing rough-in projects.
What kind of "handy work" do you do?
Some of our most requested projects in this category include: Door and storm door installation; water heater, toilet and pressure tank replacement; and faucet, dishwasher, garbage disposal installation/replacement.
Unless it is an emergency, we generally save small jobs for fall time rather than during the height of our build season. Please check for schedule availability.
We can’t do it all! What does O.C.S. not handle?
We do not work on roofs, finish drywall, install tile, painting/staining, & bathroom remodels on a case by case basis. While we do not cover these trades we do have highly qualified tradesmen we recommend for these types of projects.
